概要
Dynamics of Retrograde Hot Jupiters
Hot Jupiters are planets of roughly Jupiter's mass orbiting their host star
with periods smaller than about 10 days. It is likely that these planets
formed at much larger distances from their host star and then migrated to
their current location. Given this migration, it is surprising that many of
these planes are seen with high inclinations relative to their star's spin,
and about 1 in 4 orbits retrograde. I will discuss various dynamical
formation scenarios for these strange planets, such as bouts of strong,
sudden planet-planet scattering or long-term (secular) planet-planet or
planet-star interactions.
