The Earth and “Earths”

research

The discovery that it is actually possible to observe exoplanets was a major event with the potential to change our view of the world. In the future, life on other planets and the diversity of life in the Universe will probably become clear through astronomy. Then, questions regarding the search for the universality and diversity of the evolution of life in the Universe, and the search for habitable planets will become one of the biggest issues in the natural sciences. However, these questions cannot be solved through astronomy alone. Compared with the stars and galaxies, planets and life are far more complex systems. In order to really understand the diversity of planets and life in the Universe, we believe that techniques and knowledge of earth sciences that cover the complex system of the Earth, and life sciences that cover evolution of the diverse forms of life on the Earth, are imperative. A deep understanding of our Earth and the life, which includes us, can help towards an understanding of the many “Earths.”

We aim to develop cutting-edge science using an innovative approach; namely, a multidisciplinary integration of earth and planetary sciences, life sciences, and astronomy. We aim to expand our deep understanding of the “Earth” to an understanding in many diverse “Earths.” which exist in the Universe.
